MADISON, Wis. — As snow fell steadily over the capital Saturday, firefighters from Madison and surrounding towns gathered at the main fire station and huddled against the cold.
In a few minutes, they, their families and other supporters — including firefighters from Beloit and Janesville — would line up five abreast and follow the lead of a drum and bagpipe corps through the downtown streets to the Statehouse. They would march through the Capitol building to the fanatic cheers of their fellow union faithful, tens of thousands of whom converged on Mad City to protest Gov. Scott Walker’s budget bill and its union-related measures. Read more.
